Workers' comp is broken: the fix starts now

WHS Reform Workers' Compensation Workplace Mental Health

The NSW workers' comp scheme is broken. Today, we start the push to fix it.

Our CEO, Daniel Hunter, makes the case for urgent reform in The Daily Telegraph. Read it now on our In the News page.

Broken, misused and in the red

We know the scheme is failing. Businesses are footing the bill for a system that’s inefficient and unsustainable. Too often, it’s used to escalate workplace grievances and performance issues.

The workers comp deficit has hit $3.6 billion, growing by $1.8 billion last year alone, or nearly $5 million a day. Psychological injury claims have surged 65% since 2021–22, now exceeding 11,000 a year.

Reform is the only option

We’ve always backed fair compensation and proper care for injured workers. But the system must focus on genuine injury claims, not workplace disputes.

We fully support the NSW Government’s bold push for reform. Without it, the system will collapse – hurting workers, businesses, and the economy.
