Tracing our heritage back to 1826, Business NSW continues its heavy involvement in key activities for the prosperity of business.
ANNUAL REPORT 2024
Driving meaningful change
Being a member-based organisation means we are acutely aware of the issues that matter to Australian businesses. In FY24 our members continued to face significant challenges driven by a combination of rising interest rates, labour market challenges and increasing energy and insurance costs. We engage and listen to our members, and we are deliberate and decisive in our actions to support them. This has been a year of growth, reflection, and strategic advancement. As we look to the future, we do so with a strong sense of purpose and a clear vision. I am confident that, together, we will continue to build on our successes and serve our members in new and better ways.
Lyall Gorman, President Business NSW.
ANNUAL REPORT 2023
We Mean Business.
As Australia has emerged from the shadows cast by the COVID-19 global pandemic, our commitment to championing the interests of our members and the broader business community has remained resolute. We recognise that in returning to ‘normality’ what’s required isn’t merely a return to pre-pandemic routines, but deliberate and decisive action to seize the opportunity to build a stronger, more agile foundation for the future.
Lyall Gorman, President Business NSW.
ANNUAL REPORT 2022
Advocacy matters.
Despite the challenges of this last financial year, we’ve remained focused on the needs of our members at a time when our support and advocacy has mattered more than ever. Business NSW has always shown leadership on issues important to Australian businesses. The global pandemic has been no exception. In fact, faced with the ongoing disruption of new COVID-19 variants, and followed by devastating floods across large areas of NSW and Queensland, this past year has reinforced just how essential our work is for Australia’s business community.

ANNUAL REPORT 2021
Challenging times.
There is no blueprint for navigating a global pandemic but I am immensely proud of how our team has adapted quickly to deliver results for our members and our organisation in an uncertain, unpredictable and volatile environment.
Last year, I said advocacy for NSW businesses had never been more important. This also rings true for this financial year. Faced with the ongoing disruption of the pandemic, we have maintained focus on our members' needs and seized opportunities to respond quickly and campaign heavily.
Lyall Gorman, President Business NSW.
ANNUAL REPORT 2020
Advocacy for NSW even more critical.
Contemplating FY20 ahead of time, it was always going to be a big year for us. What we did not anticipate was the global COVID-19 pandemic and the massive impact it would have on our members.
As an organisation, we have always said to our members, “Through thick and thin, we’re with you on every step of your journey.” In difficult times, this commitment is more important than ever.
Lyall Gorman, President Business NSW.
ANNUAL REPORT 2019
Thriving in uncertain times
The past year has seen a great deal of uncertainty internationally and here in Australia. Tensions in global trade and shifts in economic power have brought increased volatility to the business and investment environments. Advances in communications continue to revolutionise the way society operates, and technology advances are rapidly disrupting traditional business models. At the same time vigorous political debate in Australia is driving further changes.
Nola Watson, President NSW Business Chamber.
ANNUAL REPORT 2018
Trust in business
This year has shone the spotlight on the importance of integrity and trust in business. Hardly a day has passed without media attention or commentary highlighting questionable behaviour by someone in the business community. While individual companies have been singled out for attention, the cumulative effect has been tarnishing the reputation of business more generally.
Nola Watson, President NSW Business Chamber.
ANNUAL REPORT 2017
A strong heritage to build on
Looking back at the last 12 months, I am reminded of what a privilege it is to be the President of an organisation which has been instrumental in helping to shape the development of Australia, from even before we were a nation. In 2017, our Chamber celebrated 190 years of supporting business and enterprise in NSW, a milestone we should all be very proud of.
Professor Trevor Cairney OAM,
President NSW Business Chamber.
