The state’s peak business body congratulates Anthony Albanese on his re-election as Prime Minister.

The re-elected Albanese Government is in a solid position to govern for mainstream Australia.

The business community urges the new parliament and government to deliver on key promises for small and medium businesses.

Australia needs a growth agenda to keep our communities prosperous.

Key priorities from this campaign include extending the instant asset write-off, cutting red tape, ensuring labour flexibility and completing key infrastructure promises.

Business NSW CEO Daniel Hunter said SMEs want action from the government this term.

“SMEs need practical, tangible reforms,” Mr Hunter said.

“If we are to have a strong manufacturing base – as part of the government’s Future Made in Australia policy – businesses need access to cheap and reliable energy, a flexible industrial relations system and low taxes.

“NSW has the largest workforce, which allows for innovation and expansion when economic conditions are favourable.”

While the cost of living has been the number one issue for households, there has also been a cost of doing business crisis.

Insurance, taxes, wages and energy are the top four cost pressures for small businesses right now and skills shortages and red tape also pose immense challenges.

Mr Hunter said Business NSW will work closely with the federal Labor government on these key issues.

“We’re committed to working with the government to ensure policies and decisions prioritise the interests of the nation’s growth and jobs engine – our hard-working businesses and the local communities they serve,” he said.

Business NSW remains focused on advocating for:

  • reforms to address housing supply issues, particularly in regional NSW, to support workforce accessibility
  • solutions to address skills and workforce shortages
  • reform of NSW state government taxes and charges on insurance policies, especially the Emergency Services Levy
  • energy, safety, and regulatory reforms, and
  • payroll tax changes, a fairer GST share for NSW, and a simplified tax system that drives small business growth and innovation.
