STATE'S LEADING BUSINESSES CELEBRATED
November 2022
Read MoreMr Joseph Carrozzi AM has been welcomed as the new President of the state’s peak business organisation, Business NSW.
Mr Carrozzi – a respected business leader, chair and board member for a range of businesses in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors – takes the helm of the 199-year-old organisation from today.
His expertise draws upon more than 30 years of leadership in the professional services (accounting and financial advisory) industry. He chairs a number of private and publicly listed businesses which are based in NSW.
Mr Carrozzi believes the intersection between the public and private sectors creates enormous opportunity to enhance the liveability of our communities and underpin our competitive position as a nation.
“NSW is the leading private sector economy in Australia and the engine of growth,” Mr Carrozzi said.
“The strongest source of employment and quality jobs is acknowledged – by all sides of politics – as being the small and medium business sector in NSW. As we all know: the government doesn’t create jobs, business does.
“Our members tell us that tax reform, energy and insurance are some of the biggest issues impacting business owners’ ability to grow, and I look forward to ensuring our state’s political and business leaders put these at the top of their priorities.”
Mr Carrozzi succeeds Lyall Gorman, who was appointed as Business NSW President in February 2020 and has been its longest serving President.
Mr Gorman will remain on the board, bringing his unrivalled experience at the peak of the country’s sporting, housing and business advocacy.
Mr Gorman said: “It has been an honour and a privilege to serve as President. I look forward immensely to continuing to support what I truly believe to be the heart and pulse of our economy and social fabric, small to medium enterprise, in any way I can – through my ongoing roles on the board of Business NSW and as Vice President of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
“From our beginnings in 1826, to our time as the Chamber of Manufactures and now as Business NSW, our organisation has always been at the forefront of advocacy for the NSW business community. And our members, more than 100,000 strong nationally and almost 50,000 in NSW, need that voice more than ever.
“I have no doubt Mr Carrozzi will take our organisation to even greater heights in the years ahead.”
Business NSW CEO Daniel Hunter said: “On behalf of the entire business community, I want to thank Lyall Gorman for steering the business community through the unprecedented turbulence of the Covid era”.
“Mr Gorman’s tireless work during this time supported thousands of businesses, the people they employ and the communities they serve,” Mr Hunter said.
“At a time of great national and international uncertainty and instability, this is a critical time for the NSW business community.
“Business NSW will draw on Mr Carrozzi’s wealth of national and global business experience – as it will on all our board members and our leadership team across the state.”
