BUSINESS COMMUNITY WELCOMES NEW SHADOW CABINET

06 Jan 2026

The state’s peak business body has congratulated Opposition Leader Kellie Sloane on her new Shadow Cabinet – and highlighted that small business support will be a key test in the lead-up to the election.

Business NSW CEO Daniel Hunter said: “Kellie Sloane has made a strong start by striking a deal with the NSW Government on workers’ compensation reform.

“That decision will directly affect the bottom line of more than 320,000 NSW businesses that pay these premiums. It shows the Opposition can act when business pressures are real.”

With an election approaching, Mr Hunter said businesses are looking for clear commitments and tangible support.

“That means payroll tax relief, cutting the Emergency Services Levy, and tackling the red tape that is stifling productivity and growth,” Mr Hunter said.

“Energy costs, insurance and regulation are piling up. If these pressures aren’t addressed, jobs and investment will be at risk.”

Mr Hunter said Business NSW looked forward to working with Ms Sloane's team on the issues that matter most to small business.

“A strong Opposition matters – but so does action," he said.

“Our members expect business priorities to be front and centre in the lead-up to the next election.”
