BONDI BUSINESS SUPPORT PACKAGE WELCOMED
A comprehensive support package to help small businesses affected by the Bondi terrorist attack has been welcomed by the state’s peak business body.
The state and federal governments have announced measures to support victims, their families and impacted businesses.
The package includes $5000 one-off grants for small businesses in eligible locations, up to $20,000 grants for impacted small businesses in the immediate vicinity and funding for various community groups.
Business NSW CEO Daniel Hunter – who was consulted on the terms of the support package – said this funding is an important step in helping the community recover.
“Our Jewish community has been attacked in the most heinous way and the pain and trauma from this act will be felt for a long time,” Mr Hunter said.
“Local businesses are integral to Bondi’s social fabric. They are made up of people – workers, families and neighbours – who have been deeply affected by this tragedy.
“This support is a meaningful step in helping businesses and the community recover.”
The support package for business includes:
- $5000 one-off grants for small businesses in eligible locations.
- Up to $20,000 for impacted small businesses in the immediate vicinity and those who show exceptional circumstances. Registrations commence on Friday, December 19, with grants processed by early next week.
- $1.5 million for the Community Services Group to provide additional security at Jewish community locations.
- $1 million for Waverley Council to assist with clean-up requirements at Bondi Beach, and for community cohesion events.
- $2.8 million to provide up to eight coordinators to undertake community engagement, support the local community and provide capacity building. The funding includes $1 million for a grant program delivered through a partnership between Multicultural NSW and the Jewish Board of Deputies to support community organisations.
Impacted businesses can register for support from Friday, with applications processed from early next week. They can attend the Recovery Hub or contact Service NSW on 13 77 88 to organise a meeting with a Business Concierge member.
Businesses can also lodge insurance claims related to the Bondi terrorist attack. This follows the federal government declaring the attack a terrorist incident for the purposes of the Terrorism and Cyclone Insurance Act 2003.
